Like watching paint dry!

Do you remember the early days of Facebook? How exciting it felt?
Suddenly, you could easily connect with people across the world.
Stay in touch with friends you made on holiday.
Keep relationships alive that would have otherwise faded.
Kudos to Mark Zuckerberg et al.
It all started with the best of intentions.
Facilitating human connections and all for free!!
But somewhere along the way, that feeling got lost.
Now, we scroll without thinking.
Pulled into a vortex.
Minutes blur into hours.
And for what?
With the rise of fake news, AI-generated content and endless recycled trends, social media feels different. Less real. Less meaningful. More like noise.
It’s not so engaging anymore.
You wouldn’t feel good after spending hours watching paint dry.
Yet doom scrolling has quietly become the digital equivalent.
Just as brain-numbing but far more addictive and toxic to your mental health.
For me, the real cost isn’t just attention but time. Precious, irreplaceable time.
Social media is about someone else and the time you waste consuming their content is time taken away from you.
Time that could be invested in something meaningful.
Learning a new skill.
Reading a book that challenges you.
Starting a hobby that energises you.
Spending real time with people who matter.
Being present in your own life.
Social media promises stimulation, but often delivers emptiness.
It keeps us busy, not fulfilled.
So the question isn’t “how much time do you spend scrolling?”
It’s “what are you missing while you do?”
Your time is valuable.
Spend it like it matters.
With love...
Florence 💜
